CROWNS FROM DENTISTS IN MURRAY HILL

Over time, teeth begin to weaken and become more susceptible to a host of problems including decay, cracks, and discoloration. Fortunately, our dentists in New York City can recover smiles with crowns. Crowns can be made with porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or full gold. To keep your smile looking natural, a porcelain crown is best, as it can be matched to the shade of your other teeth.

Installing a crown takes between two and three visits to the dentist. During the first visit, the tooth is reshaped by filing down the enamel. This is done so that the crown can be placed over it. To prevent discomfort, patients are given a local anesthetic. After the tooth has been reshaped, a mold will be taken of that tooth and the teeth around it. The mold will then be sent to a dental lab so that a crown can be created to fit into the spot created for it. Before leaving our NYC Dentist office, our patients are given a temporary crown.

After two or three weeks, the crown will be created, and an appointment will be set to place and fit the permanent crown. Like the first appointment, patients are given a local anesthetic to eliminate discomfort. Crowns are durable and can last for between ten to fifteen years. They don’t require special care- all you need to do to maintain them is brush and floss, as you would any of your other teeth.
